Gizmodo shows how an iPad mini could look

Fellow technology blog Gizmodo has commissioned some mockups of what Apple's rumoured iPad Mini could look like. As has been rumoured for a long time now, Apple will soon announce a smaller, 7.85 inch iPad in order to compete with the wave of newer, cheaper tablets such as Amazon's Kindle Fire and the Nexus 7.

The tablet is also rumoured to come with a brand new, reduced size dock connector. This would mark a major change from the current 30 pin Dock Connector, which has been a staple on Apple devices for over 10 years now, but the change would allow future device to become slimmer and less bulky.

But what would such a device look like? Well Giz has commisioned some renders from designer Nickolay Lamm. The result? Well it looks like a smaller iPad.

Top 5 TV Shows on Netflix UK

I love Netflix. It's handy, cross-platfrom, simply and extremely addictive. I love the fact that I can just watch something and not worry about what platfrom the service supports, and the video quality is great. But sometimes finding something half-decent to watch can be like sifting through the bargain bin in HMV, a sordid mix of crappy 80's sitcoms and cancelled reality TV. But look hard enough and there are genuine gems to be had, some shining examples of great TV. So, without further ado, enjoy or Top 5 countdown of the very best of Netlfix UK.

5. Doctor Who

Ah, Doctor Who, the BBC's super-camp sci-fi series. Yes, it's primarily a childrens programme, but the show itself has a lot to offer more grown up viewers as well. From Russell T Davies' not-so-subtle gay undertones, to Moffat's mind raping storyline twists, Doctor Who is the TV equivalent of the weird uncle who only surfaces at childrens birthday parties, wearing a tiny pair of cycling shorts. It's utterly mad, a bit disgsuting, but you can't help but love it.

Despite essentially being a show about a several hunderd year old man who flies around in a blue Police Box picking up young earth girls and showing them amazing locations around the universe, Who isn't the lovechild of a pedophile and Thomas Cook that you might expect. Instead it's a wonderfully funny, irrelevant series that I'm sure you will love.

BEST BIT?

The amazingly sexy Alex Kingston, who plays River Song. You can almost hear the sound of hundreds of teenagers ejaculating every time she utters her famously arousing catchphrase 'Spoilers!'

WORST BIT?

GERONIMOOOOOOOO! (You'll See)

4. South Park

Does this really need an introduction? The series that by it's own admission 'Joyfully skews trends, celecbrities and political figures' South Park has been a staple of comedy channels for a number of years. With storylines that include the 2008 election, Cthutulu's invasion and ManBearPig, South Park has entertained us for many years. You'll enjoy dodgy celebrity impressions, outrageously offensive storylines and Cartman. And with series 10,11 and 12, you'll ahve plenty of it to enjoy.

BEST BIT?

Eric Cartman's constant and inwavering racisim, which seems to have no limit or bounds, no matter how immoral.

WORST BIT?

Scenes that are so painful to watch, so disgusting, that you actually start to wonder why the hell your retinas haven't exploded just yet.

3. Dexter

Okay, we'll admit it right off the bat. We've never seen Dexter, but the serial killer series looks fantastic enough that we had to recommend it anyway. Following the advertures of 'Dexter', who moonlights as a Policeman while killing serial killers at night.

Sense the pattern guys, we haven't seen the show.

2. LOST

Okay, this one is a bit of a cheat aswell. Recommending LOST as any sort of 'Best TV Show' is like kicking a cardboard cutout or Morgan Freeman in the balls. It's going to cause a minor bit of controversy, everyone will kick up a fuss, get bored and go home. But the point is, LOST is supposed to be a controversial show. And as long as you arent an answer hound, you will find that the series does actually come to a satisfying conclusion. And with a brilliant opening series, you are guaranteed to get sucked into the island storyline. Just don't ask how Hurley manages to remain so rotund after so long on a deserted island with no food.

BEST BIT:

Evangeline Lily's wet ass.

WORST BIT:

'WAAAAAAAAAAAALLLT!'

1. Breaking Bad

This is it. Number 1. Numbero Uno, the big one. The best TV series on Netflix UK, and arguably, the history of the human race. So Ryan, you ask, what is this amazing series all about? Well, mysterious reader, Breaking Bad follows the amazing story of Walter White, a chemistry teacher dying of cancer who begins cooking Methampetamine with one of his old students on order to provide for his family. Nothing out of the ordinary there then. And if like me, you are wondering how that plot manages to stretch to 5 series, worry not. With brilliant pacing, impeccable acting and really stellar camera work, Breaking Bad is a refreshing reminder of how TV should be made.

BEST BIT: Walt's extaordinary transformation from innocent, over his head wellmeaner to cold-blooded drug lord.

WORST BIT: Waiting for the next episode to load on Netflix.

Pulse teases 'big announcement' on it's Twitter account

Popular mobile news reading app Pulse is currently teasing a 'big' announcement of what is in the company's pipeline. Posting a cryptically teasing URL on it's official Twitter feed, the company prompted speculation that the app was about to hit the desktop.

Something big is coming. Be the first in line.

Most guesses as to what is happening centre round a launch on the Mac App Store, a suggestion that also seems most likely to us. Mac ports of iOS apps have become more and more common, with Twitter client Tweetbot most recently making the jump to Apple's larger machines.

Pulse is currently available for iOS, Android and WP7.

Hulu Plus has arrived on the Apple TV

American readers or IP address dodgers rejoice! Hulu+ has finally launched on the Apple TV, bringing us one miniscule step closer to the app-filled TV nirvana that we all so desperately desire.

To be fair, this announcement is actually bigger news than it may first seem. It shows that Apple is finally thawing its icy hold on content for iOS, something which it needs to do if it is to truly enter the TV market. The announcement is also notable because Hulu is another service (alongside Netlflix) which directly competes with Apple's iTunes store.

Hulu+ is a US subscription service that allows you to stream hundreds of TV shows and Movies. Who in their right mind is going to buy a season pass to rent 'Modern Family" off iTunes, when it is already rolled into the existing Hulu package? Although Apple isn't getting shafted entirely: new users will be able to subscribe to Hulu using their iTunes account, meaning Apple gets a juicy 30% cut of it all.

Commenting on their official blog, Hulu says:

Keeping up with the latest episode of Family Guy, Masterchef and New Girl on Hulu Plus just got a little easier. And my living room just got a whole lot happier.

Hulu Plus arrives on Apple TV today.

The Hulu channel should have already appeared on your Apple TV, although you may need to reboot the device.

Is Apple interested in buying Pinterest clone The Fancy?

BusinessInsider is reporting that Apple has it sights set on further expansion in the social world - and is in talks currently towards acquiring The Fancy, a social commerce and sharing network.

The objective: to secure a role for Apple in the growing e-commerce market, putting the 400 million+ users with credit cards on file with Apple's iTunes Store to work shopping - with Apple getting a cut of the action.

The Fancy has been described as an alternative to Pinterest, another sharing site which has exploded in popularity in recent months, especially in the crucially active young female sector. The site allows users to 'pin' items they find online that they would want to buy. Here's how Fancy explains itself:

Fancy is part store, blog, magazine, and wishlist. It's a place to discover great stuff, to curate a collection of things you love, to get updates on your favourite brands and stores and to share your discoveries.

Use it to create a catalog of favourite things around the web and around the world. When you find something you love somewhere on the web, Fancy it.

But what would Apple want with a company like that? Well, The Fancy has one significant advantage over Pinterest: It allows users to buy items directly from the website itself, and it is this which might appeal to Apple, who may be eyeing up a 30% cut of transactions.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has met with The Fancy CEO and Cook himself has even created an account on the website, 'Fancying' several items. I think i agree with BusinessInsider's view that the acquisition could have something to do with Apple's desire to launch a full 'iWallet'. It makes sense for the company to have a social backbone in whatever shopping experience it decides to serve up.
